DANCING ON DADDY’S BOOTS
By Judy Reid

Country: Districts and small settlements outside large towns, cities, or the capital

Musician: A person who plays a musical instrument especially as a profession, or is musically talented

So after knowing the above definitions, I assume that a Country Musician must be someone who lives in a small settlement and is musically talented. I have often wondered how some of the great Country Music artists who live in the middle of nowhere, Dolly Parton as an example, became such good artists. Most of them certainly didn’t have the opportunity to take music lesson or have formal training. There is something wonderful and profound in people that are born with a talent that is unstoppable and has to find a way out of their soul into the world. They see life in a different way, they hear sounds that are not heard by others and I can’t begin to imagine how colorful their surroundings must be looking through their talented eyes! Musicians and artistic people are all blessed with a God given talent that was placed in their souls at the very minute of conception.

I was blessed to have grown up in the same household with one of these talented people. I watched my brother morph into a great musician and songwriter. He wasn’t pushed to pursue music, it was just always in his heart, soul and mind. I remember many days and nights watching him sit on the side of his bed with an old guitar picking out tunes caught up in his own artistic world. Watching and listening to him was never a struggle, like so many kids that struggle with music lessons trying to master an instrument. Even at an early age, there was always a tune or a lyric that made perfect sense and flowed out of him effortlessly into space. As time passed, it didn’t seem to matter if it was a piano, fiddle or guitar that helped him release his God given talents into the world, but, it was obvious that he was always going to have one of these instruments close by to help him express what was embedded in his soul.

Kim Blakey has just released a new CD of original songs titled “Dancing on Daddy’s Boots. This song was inspired by raising two daughters that each learned to dance at one of their Daddy’s many events. All of the songs on the CD are written because of a life event or situation, from a song entitled “Bucket List” to “Home” ending with “Lord Show Me the Way”. For those of you that may know Kim, you will chuckle at some of the lyrics, relate to some of the lyrics and be completely humbled and moved by others. This CD is a snap shot of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas at its finest!

The CD may be purchased early for $15 at: Kim Blakey, 3211 Donegal, El Paso, TX 79925, or you can call 915-588-3960 to purchase using a credit or debit card.
