History Professor Writes Article about Civil War Letter Proposing Marriage
“By all rights, nothing should have inspired fear in John T. Jenkins by the time he reached the age of 24. During his life, Jenkins had faced danger on numerous occasions, and his experiences should have made him immune to any sense of dread or foreboding. And yet, as Jenkins picked up his pen to write a letter at Young’s Point, Louisiana in April of 1863, something clearly frightened the young man.” This is the opening paragraph in an article by Dr. Donald Elder III about a letter written by a Union Soldier.

ENMU Foundation Collecting Contributions for #24Strong Fund
Dear Campus Family:
On Nov. 11 at our game against Midwestern State University, we will present a symbolic check representing the total amount of our donations in honor of Robert Brays, an MSU football player who lost his life earlier this year after an injury of the field of play. There have been a large number of contributors to this fund and now the ENMU Foundation has agreed to match up to $5,000 in contributions. I would like to ask you to consider making a contribution to this fund by Friday, Nov. 10, if you have not already done so.
Our Foundation has set up the #24Strong fund. Please share this message with other members of our community.
Text #24Strong to 575.562.8585 to give or visit enmu.edu/24Strong.
Thank you.
With great respect,
Jeff Elwell, president
