Obituary

Memorial services for Adella Ruiz, 60, of Portales, will be announced at a later time.

Adella Ruiz was born Jan. 13, 1962 in Breckenridge, TX to the home of Dominga (Medina) and Pedro Ruiz and died early on the morning of Mar. 1, 2022 in Lubbock, TX.  She made her home in Breckenridge until 1993 when she moved to Portales.  She was disabled at an early age, so for most of her life she was a caregiver for her children and grandchildren.  As she saw it, none of her grandchildren ever did anything wrong, and she was always very proud of them.  However, her children knew her to be a strict disciplinarian who was not afraid to hand out a spanking or firm correction when needed.

Adella loved to cook and have family gatherings and just spending time with her loved ones.  She was not afraid to express her strong opinions and thoughts and was know as the loud one in the family.  In fact, she was not afraid to yell to get her point across.  She could always be counted on to give good advice from her wealth of wisdom.  Adella had a big heart, and her door was always open to anyone.  She loved to dance, and had a great sense of humor.  However, her heart broke at the death of her son, Nick in 2013, and she grieved for him every day.  The family takes comfort in the fact that she is not alone anymore, and that they are together once again.

She is survived by four daughters, Matilda Ruiz of Portales, Elizabeth Martinez of Amarillo, Donna Martinez of Portales and Sandy Martinez of Tulsa, OK; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Luis Ruiz and Gilbert Ruiz both of Breckenridge, TX; and two sisters, Becky Ruiz and Karolyn Rodriguez also of Breckenridge, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Pete Ruiz, a sister, Mary Ruiz and by her beloved son, Nick Martinez, Jr.
