Andy was born June 4, 1935, in Terkaple, Friesland in the Netherlands at the home of Ids and Shirley Schaap. He is the middle of 5 Children.  The family owned a dairy farm.  After WWII the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Artesia, CA in 1947.  The family started a 12-cow dairy.  When he wasn’t working for his dad, Andy enjoyed bicycling, waterskiing, and speed skating. He met his future wife Ria at the Paramount ice-skating rink in CA.  They were married in the Reformed Church on December 7, 1960, and had their reception at Knott’s Berry Farm.  Ontario, CA became their home where together they worked hard to build their dairy business.  They had four boys and one daughter.  Andy was proud of his service to his country as a member of The National Guard.

July 1977 Andy and Ria moved their business and family to Portales, NM.  He and his family enjoyed lake trips and snow skiing trips when living in California and continued when they moved to New Mexico. The family were active members of the Methodist Church. They hosted pool parties and taught many to water ski. Upon retiring in 2004, Andy and Ria moved to Clovis, NM where life continued to be all about family.  Andy always maintained enthusiasm for the dairy industry his entire life and was a tremendous influence on the careers of his children. He will be truly missed by all of those who knew him.
