Aubrey Alvin Sparks October 22, 1956 ~ November 15, 2025 (age 69)

Funeral services for Aubrey Sparks, 69, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Fri., Nov. 21, 2025 at Generations Church with Pastor Todd Terry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Steve Barron, Troy McCollum, Paul Benoit, Steve Davis, Nathan Sparks and Colton Sparks serving as pallbearers.  All of his many close friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Aubrey Alvin Sparks was born Oct. 22, 1956, in Portales to the home of Lois Charlene (Ritchie) and Bert Alvin Sparks, and died very suddenly on the evening of Nov. 15, 2025 in Portales.  Aubrey was a 1974 graduate of Portales High School.  He began working in his father’s mechanic shop from an early age, and continued to run the shop after his father’s death in 1984.  After the shop was sold, Aubrey established his own car customizing business which he operated for several years.  In 2011, he became the maintenance supervisor for the Floyd School District.  Aubrey’s passion was cars, and throughout his adult years, he bought numerous cars that he reconditioned, or repaired and resold.

Aubrey was a man of deep Christian faith, and was a faithful member of Generations church.  For relaxation he enjoyed fishing and going to the mountains with his friends, spending time with his family members and dancing.  He often frequented dances throughout Eastern New Mexico and West Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Lois Sparks of Portales; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kenny and Michelle Sparks of Amarillo, TX and Tommy Sparks of Portales; and his nieces and nephews, Nathan (Chellsea) Sparks, Colton (Jessi) Sparks, Lauren (Jake) Decker, Adriana (Jack) and Christopher Sparks.  He was preceded in death by his father, Bert Sparks in 1984 and a brother, Gary Sparks.
