After completing a successful career both academically and athletically at Eastern New Mexico, senior Ezra Bagwell from the track and field team was announced as the men’s 2019 Lone Star Conference Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year by the conference office on Thursday.

Bagwell is Eastern New Mexico’s first ever recipient in the 12-year history of the award that was voted upon by the league’s sports information directors.
The Clayton, N.M. native completed a banner year, earning the Lone Star Conference Male Academic Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons while being named to the LSC All-Academic Team in each season. During the indoor campaign, Bagwell broke his own ENMU record in the heptathlon by scoring a 4537 as well as set the second-best 60-meter hurdles mark in program history with an 8.96 at the LSC Indoor Championships.

The multi-events competitor wrapped up his ENMU career with a pair of program records as he also holds the indoor pole vault record with a 4.39-meter vault while also setting the third-best outdoor marks in the pole vault (4.24-meters) and the decathlon (6119).

Bagwell was named to the LSC All-Academic Team six times in his Eastern career while also earning Google Cloud Academic All-American accolades in 2018.
Bagwell earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology in May after graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
