Obituary

Graveside services for Betty Evans, 91, will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., May 29, 2021 in the Portales Cemetery with her grandson, Rev. Jeremy Johnston officiating.  All of her grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.  The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 6 to 8 PM.

Betty Ruth Evans was born May 18, 1930 in Amarillo, TX to the home of Mamie Etta (Gardner) and Oliver Bradford Pinkston and died early on the morning of May 26, 2021 in Clovis, NM.  She was reared in Broadview and attended school in Grady.  She was a 1948 graduate of Grady High School.  She went on to attend Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK.  For several years she served as a Nazarene pastor’s wife in various locations in New Mexico.  On Sept 3, 1976, in Clovis, she was married to Johnnie L. Evans.  She worked together with him in his cattle buying business until their retirement.

Mrs. Evans was an avid gardener, and on several occasions her yard was chosen as the Yard of the Month.  She loved to do needlepoint, and had produced countless beautiful pieces, and was also an excellent seamstress.  She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Johnnie L. Evans of Clovis; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sherri Johnston of Lubbock, TX; a daughter, Darlene Johnston of Bethany, OK; three step-daughters, Lynda Mitchell of Amarillo, TX, Glynda Dallas of Clovis, NM and Rhonda Hardy of Bedford, TX; ten grandchildren, Renee (Randy) Terry, Jeremy (Vanessa) Johnston, Malissa (Clay) Trotter, Michelle (Matt) Hromas, David (Jessica) Mitchell, James (Jessi) Mitchell, Rebekah (Weston) White, Jennefier (Cory) Dudley, Steven (Samantha) Dallas and Darrell (Jacqueline) Martin III; and 24 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles Pinkston and Jimmy Pinkston and a sister, Alma Clark.
