DENTON, TEXAS — Junior first baseman Erikka Burke homered for the second time in three games, to smash her tenth round-tripper of the season for the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (13-22; LSC 6-9). The Hounds dropped a 10-2 decision to Texas Woman’s (19-10; LSC 9-5) in the Lone Star Conference series finale between the teams, Saturday at Pioneer Field.

The blast was the 19th of Burke’s career, tying her with Sarah Rempp, who played for Eastern from 1998-2001. She is the first ENMU player to reach double figures since Taylor Howard in the 2011 season.
Burke also singled in the first inning, before scoring the game’s first run on a two-out single from Samantha Brockman. Texas Woman’s responded with 10 straight runs over the first two innings, before Burke hit one out of the park in the top of the third frame. The game ended after the top of the fifth, due to the Pioneer’s eight-run lead.
Freshman outfielder Cameron Conrad added a second-inning single for the Hounds. Abby Walker went the distance for TWU and scattered four hits.
The Eastern New Mexico University softball team will return to action on Tuesday, to visit Lubbock Christian. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. MST.
