National Collector Car Appreciation Day is celebrated across the country on July 14. Portales participated with a car show on the square. About 55 cars were entered from surrounding areas. Each owner takes pride in collecting and restoring the history and memories.
It was fun to watch the people, the older folks reminiscing and the younger ones dreaming of having a classic some day.
Lots of hoods were lifted and talks about motors, transmissions and paint jobs were shared among car collectors.
At the end of the day the Voters Choice award went to Danny Jones. According to Danny, ” I don’t think I deserved it as there was some bad ass rides there, but I guess all the voters did, so ok, I’ll take it. Didn’t even know it was a competition and voting was taking place. I was just there to hang out and visit with friends.” — in Portales, New Mexico.
