Carolyn Francys (Clifton) Gorrell September 19, 1938 ~ September 28, 2026 (age 88)

     A memorial service for Carolyn Gorrell, 88, of Portales will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Emmanual Baptist Church with Pastor C.J. Garrett officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.

Carolyn Francys Clifton Gorrell went home to be with her loving heavenly Father on September 28, 2026.  She was 88 years old and was at complete peace.

Carolyn was born on September 19, 1938, to the home of Carrie Sue and Francis Edgar Clifton.  She was blessed with one brother born June 14, 1942.  In September 1950, her dad started work in construction where they lived in numerous states.

When she was 13 years old, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in Alamogordo, New Mexico at Bethel Baptist Church.  She drifted away from the church for a number of years but always loved the Lord in her heart.  She was very close to her family, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She moved back to Portales in 1957 and met James Dexter Gorrell. They got married on January 10, 1959.  Their first son, James E. was born on April 3, 1962 and their second son, Marvin L. was born on April 8, 1965.  Her sons were the second greatest gift God can give but the first is Jesus.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband and a great grandson.

She is survived by her two sons, Jim Gorrell and wife Ronda of Henderson, Texas and Marvin Gorrell of Portales, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Latosha, Audra, Lane, Travis, Sarah and Ethan; ten great grandchildren, and a very special friend Melvina Crockett who she called a chosen sister and numerous cousins.

Her oldest great grandson Jonathan who she raised for eight years has been her devoted caregiver.

She has friends in several churches but her church has always been Emmanual Baptist Church which she has always considered her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ExcelaCare Hospice, and a special thanks to the nurses for their excellent care of our mom and grandma.
