CLOVIS, N.M. – District Attorney Quentin Ray announced that Robert Allums, 31, of Clovis was sentenced on July 20, 2026, to 15 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections after a Curry County jury convicted him of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Child Under 13, a second-degree felony.
The conviction followed a jury trial on April 9, 2026, before Judge Drew D. Tatum. Evidence showed Allums sexually abused the child over several years, taking advantage of a position of trust. At sentencing, Judge Tatum handed down the maximum 15-year term with no suspended time and ordered Allums to register as a sex offender upon his release.
During sentencing, Judge Tatum praised the young victim’s remarkable courage and called Allums a predator who abused his authority. The Judge emphasized the court’s duty to protect both victims and the community from individuals who exploit children.
This sentence reflects the seriousness of offenses committed against children and the lasting impact they have on victims. The Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office is grateful to the victim for her courage in coming forward and throughout the trial process, and thanks the Clovis Police Department and everyone involved in securing this conviction.
Special Prosecutor Brett Carter and Senior Trial Attorney Anthony Jaimes led the prosecution. Allums was represented by Erin Van Soelen, contract counsel for the Law Office of the Public Defender.
