From: Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Clovis, New Mexico

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced today that Rachel Aranda, 35, of Clovis, plead guilty to one count of Negligently Making a Firearm Accessible to a Minor, a misdemeanor offense.

The plea stems from an incident on March 27, 2025, when officers responded to a report involving an individual with a weapon.  Officers arrived at the 700 block of Axtell Street, where the victim reported that ex-boyfriend had unlawfully entered the residence.  During a domestic dispute, the suspect, a 16-year-old male pointed a firearm at the victim and her infant child.

Following the investigation, the Clovis Police Department executed a search warrant at Aranda’s home.  Two firearms registered to Aranda were recovered, including a pink and silver handgun that matched the description provided by witnesses.

A Plea and Disposition Hearing was held today before Magistrate Judge Janemarie Vander Dussen. Aranda was sentenced to 364 days probation as a condition of her plea.

The State was represented by Deputy District Attorney, Brittany Hudson.  Aranda was represented by Kathleen Kelly of the Law Office of the Public Defender.
