PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Cross Country teams travel to Lawton, Okla. this weekend to compete in the 2021 LSC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 23. The championships start with the women’s program running a 6k course beginning at 9:30 a.m. local time (8:30 a.m. MST), with the men’s program completing after in an 8K race, with a start time of at 10:30 a.m. local time (9:30 a.m. MST).

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds come into the championships off of solid performances at the LCU Pre-Region Meet. The women’s program captured first place in team scoring out of seven other teams competing in the 5K race. For the men’s program, the Hounds sixth of eight teams on the 8K course, in Lubbock, Texas.

The women’s program saw six runners finish within the top-ten, with Dorcas Kosgei placing first with a time of 19:13.1, Lethabo Seema was just behind in second-place, with a time of 19:32.4 on the 5K course.

The men’s team was led by Devis Cheruiyotcrossing the line in 12th place, with a time of 27:33.22 on the 8K course. Japhet Toroitich was next for ENMU with a time of 28:21.02 earning a 20th place finish. 

THE COURSE

The Greyhounds will be running at the Big Green Soccer Complex. The course is based around a multiple soccer fields hosted by Cameron University in Lawton, Okla.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

The Greyhounds will face tough competition with as the LSC teams coming together to compete (16 women’s teams; 15 men’s teams). On the men’s side, West Texas A&M University stands just outside the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national top-30 poll, while holding a fifth place standing in the USTFCCCA South-Central Regional rankings.

As for the women’s programs, DBU enters the weekend at #20 in the nation in the USTFCCCA poll, with West Texas A&M holding the #27 position in the USTFCCCA top-30 poll. Regionally, DBU sits in seventh, with West Texas A&M in eighth for the USTFCCCA South-Central Regional rankings.
