Obituary

Dorothy Belle Pyle, 92, of Portales, passed from this life on the morning of Sept. 17, 2022 at her home.  She was born Mar. 22, 1930 in Paris, AR to the home of Nina M. (Erwin) and Ernest Johnston.  She moved to Levelland, TX to live with a brother.  She was working as a waitress in a local cafe, when she met Richard Pyle.  They were married on Feb. 10, 1952.  In 1957, they moved to Portales to make their home.  For a number of years Mrs. Pyle was employed at the local Gibson’s store, where she became the housewares manager.  When the store closed, she was able to remain at home and be a full time wife and mother to their son, David and later Charles.

Mrs. Pyle was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Portales, and a valued member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Dept.  She enjoyed oil painting and quilting.  She frequently went to the Senior Citizen’s Dances in Portales and Clovis, as well as in Muleshoe.

She is survived by her son, Charles Pyle of Portales; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Ann Sweat of Clovis; as well as nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, several brothers, her oldest son, Richard David Pyle who died Mar. 29, 1975 and by her husband, Richard Oliver Pyle who died in 1987.
