This morning as I reflect, I stop to thank God for unanswered prayers, detours and downright hard times.

God works through what we perceive as denials, roadblocks, or suffering to bring about *ultimate* good, protection, or alignment with His perfect will.

Joseph’s story is a powerful example of detours and hard times (betrayal, imprisonment) that God turned into profound blessing and rescue.

“As for you, you meant to harm me, but God intended it for a good purpose, so He could preserve the lives of many people, as you can see this day.”

Genesis 50:20 NET

This sentiment is echoed in Romans, “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose”  Romans 8:28 NET

Paul takes this concept a step further instructing believers to give thanks in ALL circumstances (not some, but all).

“… give thanks in *all* circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV

While James invites us to reframe hard times as opportunities for growth, leading to a deeper faith.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

James 1:2-4 NIV

Ultimately – “our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NIV
