PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director Dr. Greg Waggoner has announced the hiring of Matt Grawrock as the department’s Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Internal Operations. Grawrock will begin his duties on ENMU on June 4th.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity and what I saw in the campus and people there,” said Grawrock. “I’m excited about the vision and direction the athletic department is going in. I am excited and feel that drive and vision in ENMU Athletics. I’m excited to become a part of that and I’m grateful to Dr. Waggoner for the opportunity. He will be great to work with and has great experience. It’s an honor for me and I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running. I also wanted to express my gratitude for President Elwell, and his leadership in this process. He is a great leader, and I look forward to working at Eastern New Mexico under his leadership. And finally, my gratitude to the search committee for all of the work that they put together in this process. It was a well-planned out interview process and I felt that they all have the best interests of the university at heart. It was a great opportunity to meet and talk with them, and I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years”

“We are very pleased to have Matt on board the Greyhound Express,” said Waggoner. “We had a very impressive search committee work through the applicant pool and Matt was selected among some strong candidates. His experience and skill set are very comprehensive and he will have an immediate impact on our department, as well as in the years to come. I look forward to working with him.”

Although Grawrock will be new to the high plains of New Mexico, athletic administration is far from new to him. He has served in various capacities at Southern Virginia University since 2007. Grawrock has served as SVU’s assistant athletic director since May 2010, and was charged with building the compliance office from the ground up, as the program transitioned from the NAIA to NCAA Division III. In that position he educated the campus community about compliance issues and was the primary liaison between the department and NCAA office.

In addition to overseeing compliance and academic issues, Grawrock was always available to help with running home events. He was responsible for the fan’s game-day experience and setting up and breaking down after the events.

A stint as the head women’s soccer coach at Southern Virginia from 2007-2016, Grawrock brings a wealth of perspectives and different skill sets to his position at ENMU. In nine years as coach, Grawrock led the program to its most wins and numerous athletic/academic accolades. He also assisted with statistical reporting and website management.

Prior to SVU, he worked as the recreation coordinator at Tahoe City PUD Parks & Recreation (Tahoe City, Calif.). In this position, Grawrock oversaw the district’s L.E.A.R.N. after-school program and was the director for Camp Skylandia, which involved hiring and training day camp staff. While in this position, Grawrock was tasked with budgeting and purchasing for both programs.

Grawrock earned his Masters of Science degree in sports management /coaching at the United States Sports Academy (2011), in Daphne, Ala. He also garnered a Bachelors’ degree in liberal arts at Southern Virginia (2002).
