Men’s Basketball  Ryan Shumaker

Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball recently announced the signing of Junior Hodnett as the first addition to the 2021-22 signing class.

Hodnett has proven himself as one of the best shooters in the Metro area throughout his career at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, N.M., and is currently ranked as the no. 4 rated player in the state of New Mexico by PrepHoops New Mexico. He was a Third Team All-Metro selection as a junior and has made over 150 three-point buckets and counting heading into his senior season.

“We are excited to have Junior join our program,” Head coach Brent Owen said. “We really value shooting in our recruiting and believe that he will be one of the best shooters in the state this year. He comes from a great family and has done well in the classroom, which makes him a great fit for our culture.”

Hodnett averaged double-digit scoring figures for the Rams last season and scored a season-high 22 points against Atrisco Heritage Academy on a night in which he connected on 6-of-9 attempts from three-point range. The 6’2 guard hit multiple three-point shots in 11 different contests in 2019-20, and shot 50 percent or better from long range in nine of those games.

Hodnett is the eighth new addition to the program since coach Owen took over as head coach in May, and is the fourth high school player from the state of New Mexico to join the Greyhounds during the span.
