Harold Earl Davis was born Mar. 16, 1945 in Chuichupa, Mexico to the home of Beatrice (Judd) and Jesse R. Davis and died Jan. 10, 2021 at his home in Portales.  Harold grew up in Queen Creek, AZ.  As a young man he was very active in sports.  He played left field on a church team that won a national championship in Salt Lake City.  On May 29, 1963, in Phoenix, AZ he was married to Peggy Barrett.  From 1968 until 1970, he managed Jorde Farms in Hereford, TX.  In 1970, he moved to Portales to grow Irish Potatoes for Jorde Potato Company.  From 1982 until 1984, Harold worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Las Vegas, NV.  He returned to Portales in 1984, and had lived here since that time.

Harold loved farming and working outdoors, and farmed all his life.  There wasn’t a piece of heavy farm equipment that within a short time Harold couldn’t operate.  He had a sixth sense where people were concerned, and could assess a person’s character without even talking to them, and know whether they were reliable and honest.  He was a very humble man, with a big heart, and was always ready to help someone in need.  Everyone who met Harold instantly loved him.

Harold was active in his church throughout his lifetime, and was an elder in the priesthood.  His most important priorities were his family and his church.  Camping and traveling were two things he really enjoyed, and had visited 49 of the 50 states.

Harold is survived by Peggy, his wife of 57 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pamela Davis of Manhattan, IL; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ezequiel Lujan of Jal, NM; three grandchildren, Joshua Davis of Chicago, IL, Daniel Lujan of Hobbs, NM and Jaida Lujan of Jal, NM; four great-grandchildren, Xekius Ramos, Elizabeth Lujan, and Chloe and Mattie Ramos; three brothers, Jess (Jody) Davis of Lehi, UT, Carlos Davis of Bakersfield, CA and Andrian (Barbara) Davis of Boise City, OK; and two sisters, Bette Davis-Lujan of Raton, NM and Marva (Leon) Mecham of Roanoke, TX.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Beatrice Davis, a brother, Clarence Davis and by a grandson, Mathew Lujan.
