PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico closed out the 2019 regular season with a 2-0 win over Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon inside Greyhound Stadium.

The Hounds out shot the Chaps by a final total of 16-to-2 to notch a third consecutive victory to close out the 2019 season and post a school-record 12 wins on the season. Eastern New Mexico will now wait to see how the final Super Region Four rankings and conference tournament play out to determine if they will earn a spot in the Division II National Tournament.

Freshman Emil Powles netted both goals as the Hounds controlled the entirety of the match, allowing just two shot attempts for the Chaps, neither on target. The Hounds on the other hand created 10 shot on goal attempts and used consistent poise in the midfield to create scoring chances throughout the afternoon.

Powles finally opened up the scoring for the match in the 66th minute after gaining possession of a pass from junior Robbie Jenkinson by way of a Craig Brand corner. Powles made the opportunity count and finally recorded the opening goal of the match after the Hounds outshot Lubbock Christian in the opening half 7-to-0.

Powles struck again just seven minutes later, this time unassisted, with a well-positioned strike that beat the keeper and doubled the advantage for the Hounds. Eastern New Mexico kept the pressure on for the remainder of the contest as junior Ross Dalton broke the school record for shutouts for a season with his sixth of the season thanks to a dominant performance from his backline of defense.

Powles and senior Julian Trapp each recorded three shots for the Hounds on an afternoon in which 10 different Hounds recorded a shot attempt.

The Hounds wrap up the 2019 regular season as the winningest team in program history with 12 wins during the regular season and will await their postseason fate in the coming weeks.
