Graveside services for Jim Bob Nuckols, 81, of Elida are pending.

James Howard Nuckols, known to virtually everyone as Jim Bob, was born Sept. 7, 1940 in Elida to the home of Mildred Maxine (Machen) and J. D. Nuckols, and died on the evening of Oct. 4, 2021 in Lubbock, TX. He grew up in Elida, and graduated from Elida High School in 1958. While in school, he played basketball, and was chosen to play on the team for the South in the North South Allstar game as a senior. He went on to study at E. N. M. U. for a year before starting to work on the construction of the Missile Sites that circled Roswell. Later he began working on various area ranches. After recovering from injuries from an accident, he began ranching on his own.

On June 3, 1961 in Clovis, he was married to Kay Lee.  They raised cattle and race horses.  Jim Bob loved his cattle and ranching, as well as his horses and horse racing.

He is survived by Kay, his wife of more than 60 years of their home; his son and daughter-in-law, Joel Dillard and Traci Nuckols of Elida; a grandson, Trevor (Christine) Nuckols; a great-grandson, Chandler Nuckols; and a brother, Travis (JoAnn) Nuckols of Clovis.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Painter.
