Joseph Edward Bucksath
June 26, 1934-January 6, 2026
Joseph Edward Bucksath, 91, was born on June 26, 1934, in Moberly, Missouri to the home of Christopher and Margaret Bucksath. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 6, 2026, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Joseph was a man whose life was defined by hard work, strong faith in Jesus, and by an unwavering devotion to his family. Joseph was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served with honor during the Korean war. After his time in the Army, Joseph was living in Alamogordo, New Mexico where he met his wife Carol in 1970. Joe and Carol eventually moved to Clovis, New Mexico and then later relocated their family to Portales where he was a dedicated employee of the ENMU Physical Plant for many years. Upon his retirement, Joseph spent his time traveling to many sporting events his grandchildren competed in and working on any project he could. He was also a mainstay of the Portales community for decades, being known as a man who could repair anything. Joe and Carol later
relocated to Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Joe loved nothing more in this world than his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, for 55 years. Together they built a legacy that has spanned generations. Joe was a proud father of seven children and has been a stronghold as his family grew. Known to his grandchildren as “Popo”, his favorite moments in his life were spent in the company of his loved ones. Whether it was winning rounds of golf with his boys or teaching his girls the best machines to play at the casinos, Joe was happiest being surrounded by his family. He taught his family the definition of hard work, to pray diligently, to have a little fun in this life, and to always love one another. Joe’s legacy will live through the family that he leaves behind, and he will be so deeply missed.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, his seven children, Todd (Twila), Melissa Sisneros (Andrew), Shawn (Gayla), Onika Tucker, Edward (Adriana), Ann-Marie (Patrick), and Mike (Britney), 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Bearden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Margaret Bucksath; his son, Edward Eugene Bucksath; his brothers, William, Christopher, John, Jerry, Richard, and Robert; his sister, Jane; and his great-grandson, Luke Conrad Beyer.
A service to honor Joseph’s life will be held June 25, 2026, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Portales, New Mexico with a Rosary at 9:00 am and a funeral service to follow at 10:00 am.
