Kim Cherri Butler was born April 19, 1960 in Clovis, NM to the home of Brenda Kay (Hestand) and Sydney Foster, and passed away at her home on Dec. 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.  Kim was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend whose kindness, faith and creativity touched many lives.

When Kim was a girl her family moved to Waxahachie, TX.  While she was in school Kim ran track.  During every school vacation and summer break, she came to Portales to spend it with her grandparents, Elvis and Billye Jo Hestand.  It was while helping them in their floral business that Kim developed her lifelong love for plants and flowers.

Kim was married to her beloved husband, Bobby Butler on Oct. 4, 1991.  Together they shared a life full of love and cherished memories.  She was a proud and loving mother to her daughter, April Butler Tipton, and husband, Ty Tipton.  Family was at the center of Kim’s life, and nothing brought her greater joy than her grandchildren.

She was a cherished grandmother to Haiden Padgett and his wife Hailey, Hudsyn Padgett, Gunnar Tipton, and Grydar Tipton.  Kim especially loved watching her grandkids compete in sports and rodeo, always cheering them on with pride and encouragement.

Kim dedicated many years to teaching art in the Portales schools, where she inspired countless students with her patience, talent, and passion for creativity.  Her love for art was reflected not only in her teaching, but in the way she saw beauty in everyday life.  One way that she expressed the beauty she observed was in her drawings and paintings.  One of her favorite places to spend time was in the beautiful surroundings of Red River, NM where she enjoyed making lasting memories with those she loved.

Kim was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, where her love for God and others was evident through her kindness, service, and the way she lived her life.

In addition to her husband, Bobby, her daughter and son-in-law, April and Ty Tipton, and her grandchildren, she is survived by her step-father, Bryan Coday, and two brothers, Kent and Kris Foster.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Kay Coday, her father, Sydney Foster, her grandparents, Elvis and Billye Jo Hestand, and her beloved grandson, Granger Tipton.
