Graveside services for Larry Edward Gentry, 73, of Lubbock will be held at 2:00 PM, Thurs., July 14, 2022 in the Portales Cemetery with Scott P Reeves officiating.

Larry was born in Clovis, NM, to Barbara Sue (Moore) Gentry and Henry Gentry on October 12, 1948. He unexpectedly passed from this life due to a massive heart attack on May 7, 2022, at the Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock, TX.
He married Delores (McCain) Gentry on February 29, 1984. They shared 39 years together, making their home primarily in Portales, NM. In December of 2018, they moved to Lubbock, TX, so they could be closer to their doctors.
He grew up as an only child and enjoyed working with his parents while they were in the grocery business. His hobbies included leisurely reading W.E.B. Griffin & Louis L’Amour novels, fishing, hunting, photography, road trips, and telling jokes. He loved making people laugh and leaving them with a smile.
Larry graduated from Portales High School in 1967.
He joined the United States Navy in 1968, which was the same year his son David Scott was born. He was a Navy Storekeeper and was honorably discharged in 1975.
Thereafter, he went to work for the Clovis Fire Department, which was a job he loved and talked about often.
He re-enlisted in the Navy in 1979 and served as a Naval Photographer from 1979 to 1983 with an honorable discharge.
He moved back to Portales in 1983. While trying to figure out his next adventure in life, he took a gamble and tried to become a car salesman. He became one of the top salesmen in the area immediately. This is how he discovered what would become his lifelong career passion, sales. A few years later, he had a boat store in Clovis, NM, named Boats ‘N’ Stuff. He remained in sales from 1986 until 2020.
Larry is survived by his wife, Delores of the home; his son ,David Scott (Christine) Gentry of Baker City, OR; stepson, Shawn (Daniel) Watson of Portland, OR; and step-daughter Julie (Greg) Hill of Lubbock, TX. By his grandchildren, Dani Griffin of Garland, TX, Alex Gentry, of Baker City, OR, Jake (Lexie) Gentry of Baker City, OR, Sarah (Emanuel) Gentry of Baker City, OR; his aunts, Becky Leone, of Las Vegas, NV, Polly (Moore) Marceca of Buchanan Dam, TX; and his uncle, Dub (Pat) Moore, of Davis, OK; cousins, Ronnie Reed of Beaumont, TX, and Tracy Bunch, of Las Vegas, NV, who were like his brother and sister. As well as numerous other cousins on both sides of his family who he loved and spent much of his childhood with.
Larry is preceded in death by both of his parents; and his dearly loved grandson, Dillon Watson, who passed away on May 23, 2021.
After Dillon’s passing, he asked that his cremation also be handled by Lake Ridge Chapel & Memorial Designers in Lubbock. A graveside celebration, followed by burial in the Portales Cemetery, will be announced & held at a later date.
