Maria Torres-Gurrola January 24, 1976 ~ October 7, 2025 (age 49)

Funeral services for Maria Torres-Gurrola, 49, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Fri., Oct 10, 2025 at Iglesia Bautista El Divino Salvador, 1098 NM-236, Portales, NM 88130.  Visitation will be at the church beginning at noon on Thurs., Oct. 9, 2025.  Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Maricio Chavez, Ulicis Chavez, Uriel Chavez-Torres, Reina Chavez, Aaron Clawson and Martin Torres serving as pallbearers.

She was born Jan. 24, 1976 in Ceballos, Durango, Mexico to the home of Manuela Gurrola and Manuel Torres, and died at her home in Portales early on the morning of Oct. 7, 2025.  She came to the United States in 1994, and first lived in Phoenix, AZ.  In 1999, she moved to Portales to make her home.  On Oct. 15, 2004 she was married to Maricio Chavez.  She was an excellent cook, and homemaker.  She had a talent for nurturing house plants, and loved to listen to music.

She is survived by her husband, Maricio of their home; three sons, Maricio Chavez, Jr., Uriel Chavez Torres and Ulices Chavez and a daughter, Reina Chavez all of Portales; two grandchildren, Eric Chavez and Everley Chavez; five brothers, Agripino Torres, Silvestre Torres, Martin Torres, Gregorio Torres and Gerardo Torres and six sisters, Felicitas Torres, Socorro Torres, Tereza Torres, Vicenta Torres, Guadalupe Torres and Cuca Torres.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents, a brother, Manuel Torres and sister, Dolores Torres.
