Graveside services for Mary Jean Hayhurst, 75, of Amarillo will be at 11:00 AM, Thurs., Dec. 15, 2022 in the Portales Cemetery with members of her family officiating.

Mary Jean Hayhurst was born May 12, 1947 in Portales, to the home of Mary Frances and Lawrence Delle Burrow, and died Nov. 30, 2022 in Amarillo, TX.  Ms Hayhurst grew up in Portales.  On May 14, 1965 she was married to Joe Hayhurst.  Mr. Hayhurst was in the US Navy, and consequently during the years of their marriage they lived in a number of different places.  The couple had three children together before they eventually divorced.  She was able to be at home with her children as they were growing up.  But in 1982 Mary suffered an aneurism and was unconscious for some time.  When she recovered, she literally had relearn everything from speaking, walking, and all of the basic things that a child has to learn.

She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1984.  For relaxation she enjoyed reading and doing needlepoint.  Mary also spent a lot of time doing what is known as tricamp painting, which is painting on cloth, and coloring pictures.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rebel and Belle Hayhurst and J. B. Hayhurst and a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Hayhurst and her husband, Larry Hamilton who all live in Amarillo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, L. D. Burrow and Ed Burrow both of Portales; and a sister, Gale Hellums who lives in GA.
