Mary “Lisa” Tapia Obituary

Memorial services for Lisa Tapia, 67, of Portales will be held at a later date.

Mary Elizabeth Tapia, known to virtually everyone as “Lisa,” was born Dec. 20, 1956 in Portales to the home of Maria Socorro (Baca) and Bernardo “Benny” Tapia, and died on the evening of Feb. 24, 2024 in Portales.  After high school, Lisa joined the Job Corps, and worked two years in Albuquerque.  After returning to Portales, she was married to Jimmy Baca.  The couple was married for 15 years before divorcing.  For enjoyment, Lisa loved to dance.

Lisa worked as a waitress at Foxxy Drive in Clovis.  Later she was employed on the line production at the Pepsi plant, and then from 1995 until 2005 in the accounting department at the corporate offices for Alsup’s Convenience Stores.  For a number of years, she worked as a delivery lady for Butterfly Floral in Portales.  From there she worked at Taco Box, and finally for the Hardins at the weighing station.  She was a member of the Catholic church.

She is survived by a son, Andrico Tapia and his companion, Christi Sparks of Portales; a daughter, Martina Samantha Tapia and her companion, Gilbert Juan Mares of Portales; five grandchildren, Analicia, and Atiana Tapia, Sarah Gonzalez, Josiah Bernardo Mares and Gilbert Juan Mares, Jr.; five brothers, Fernando “Fernie” (Anita) Tapia of Portales, Mike (Erlinda) Tapia of Guymon, OK, Ricardo (Gloria) Tapia of Portales, Martin (Carol) Tapia of Colorado Springs, CO and Sam (Killeen) Tapia of Portales; and three sisters, Yolanda Tapia of Colorado Springs, CO, Veronica (Ramon) Cantu of Jal, NM and Patrita Sanchez of Colorado Springs, CO.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Abel Tapia.
