Matilda F. (Madrid) Ortega was called home to be with God on Wednesday March 20, 2019. Matilda was born on June 5, 1962 to Alfredo and Emma Madrid in Portales, New Mexico. Matilda attended Portales High School and Graduated in 1980. Matilda married the love of her life Manuel Ortega, son of Abe and Gloria Ortega, on October3, 1981.
Matilda was a family advocate for Head start in Lea County for 5 years and was employed at Home Depot in Hobbs for 15 years, most recently as the Human Resources manager. She took absolute pride in every job she performed and impacted many lives in the process. Matilda left behind her loving husband Manuel, her 4 children and 2 grandchildren. Son Eric Manuel Ortega of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Son Gabriel Richard Ortega, his wife Julie Anna Ortega, their children Annabelle Monique Ortega and Manuel Raymond Ortega, all of Portales, NM. Son Sebastian Angel Ortega of Dallas, Texas. Daughter Ambrosia Monique Ortega of Denver, Colorado. Matilda had 9 brothers and 7 sisters. Ramona Coiner, Angie Visser, Katie Rodriguez, Jerry Madrid, Billy Madrid, Fred Madrid, Eloy Madrid, Louie Madrid, Patsy Madrid, Jaime Madrid, Phillip Madrid, David Madrid, Vanessa Madrid, Paul Madrid, and Paula Espinoza. Matilda is preceded in death by her parents Alfredo and Emma Madrid, Mother and father-in-law Abe Ortega and Gloria Ortega, her sisters Angie Visser, Ramona Coiner, Katie Rodriguez, her brothers Jaime Madrid, Louie Madrid, and Phillip Madrid.
A memorial service will be held in Hobbs, New Mexico on Monday March 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm hosted by Chapel of Hope Funeral home at 3321 North Dal Paso, officiated by Pastor Manuel Espinoza. A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at St. Helens Catholic Church, 1600 S. Avenue O, Portales, NM. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at St. Helens Catholic Church, 1600 S. Avenue O, Portales, NM. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
