PORTALES, NM – May 19, 2021 – Eastern New Mexico University President Patrice Caldwell has announced the appointment of Matthew Grawrock as Interim Athletic Director.

 

Grawrock has been at Eastern for the past three years as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Internal Operations. He also stepped in as the Interim Head Coach of the men’s soccer program for the spring of 2021. In his role as associate athletic director, Grawrock verifies student-athlete eligibility with the NCAA and also educates all student-athletes and staff members on compliance rules, in addition to making sure all internal day-to-day athletic department operations run smoothly.

He came to ENMU from Southern Virginia University where he worked in several roles since 2007. While at SVU, Grawrock was the head women’s soccer coach and later an assistant athletic director. He was tasked with building the compliance office from the ground up as Southern Virginia transitioned from NAIA to NCAA Division III. In his role as the head women’s soccer coach, Grawrock led the program to its most wins and numerous athletic/academic accolades. He also assisted with statistical reporting and website management while at SVU.

 

Prior to his time at Southern Virginia, Grawrock worked as the recreation coordinator at Tahoe City PUD Parks & Recreation in Tahoe City, Calif.

Grawrock earned his Master of Science degree in sports management /coaching in 2011 at the United States Sports Academy, in Daphne, Ala. He also garnered a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts at Southern Virginia in 2002.
