Sophomore Desiree Morgas of Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer has been named the GoEasternAthletics.com October Athlete of the Month.

Morgas led the women’s soccer team with a dominant offensive performance throughout the month of October, totaling five goals in nine games for the Hounds. As voted upon by a department-wide vote, Morgas becomes the second winner of the award after Wyatt Strand of Eastern New Mexico football took home the honor for the month of September.

The El Paso, Texas native added three assists over the course of the month to total 13 points in the nine games for the Greyhounds. Her excellent month pushed her near the top of the Lone Star Conference in multiple statistical categories as she has now totaled the third most goals (8) and third most total shot attempts (57) in the league.

She saved her best efforts for the final three games of the month against Texas A&M-International, St. Mary’s and Oklahoma Christian in which she scored a goal in all three games, added three total assists and totaled 13 shots between the three contests. A goal the week prior against St. Edward’s on Oct. 17th means that Morgas totaled four goals in the final five games of the month.

Her eight goals on the year are tied for the fifth most in a single-season in program history and her four assists for the season ties the 10th best mark in program history. Morgas had been an essential part in helping Eastern New Mexico to seven wins so far on the year, the fourth highest win total in the history of the program.

Morgas will look to continue her stellar play this weekend as the Hounds take on UT Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian on the road on Thursday and Saturday.
