The Mass of the Resurrection for Natividad Olivas, Jr., 48, of Portales will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Mar. 2, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church by Fr. Charles Ugochukwu. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Martin Olivas, Luis Olivas, Eugenio Navarrete, Albert Bargas, Jose Zuniga and Ernesto Sanchez serving as pallbearers. Juan Ceniseros will be an honorary pallbearer.
Natividad Olivas, Jr., known to most people as “Junior,” was born Jan. 15, 1969 in Candelaria, TX to the home of Maria de Jesus and Natividad Olivas and died Feb. 25, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Junior grew up in Portales, and for many years as a boy and young man worked with his family on the Jilek farm. Later he was employed at Mitchell Dairy. In 1996, he was disabled in an automobile accident, and had been living with his parents since that time. He enjoyed working on his truck, and doing other mechanic work, as well as playing music and singing. He was a very happy man.
He is survived by his parents, Maria de Jesus and Natividad Olivas of Portales; two brothers, Martin Olivas of Levelland, TX and Luis Olivas of Portales; three sisters, Grace Olivas of Portales, Julia Olivas of Albuquerque and Angela Navarrete of Odessa, TX; as well as a son, Joseph, four daughters, Briana, Tiffany, Mariah and Leah and several grandchildren.
