Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray announced today that a Curry County jury has found Danny Price guilty of two counts of First-Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Resisting, Evading or Obstructing an Officer following a four-day trial held in Clovis.

The charges stem from a deadly shooting that occurred on April 28, 2021, in the 700 block of 5th Street. Clovis Police responded to a report of shots fired, and a witness described a male suspect in a black hoodie fleeing the scene. While responding, officers observed a man later identified as Danny Price running northbound from the area. He was apprehended near a shed, and a black hoodie, matching the suspect’s description was located in the shed wrapped around a firearm. Price was taken into custody and transported to the Clovis Police Department for questioning.

Emergency personnel provided medical treatment to one victim at the scene and to another near the scene. Ricky “Rudy” Johnson was transported in critical condition to Plains Regional Medical Center and later flown to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he died from his injuries. Kennedy Michael Hodges was also transported to PRMC and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Despite denying involvement, Price was identified as the shooter by Ricky Johnson. Additional eyewitnesses established Price as the shooter.

At trial, prosecutors presented compelling evidence, including:

  • Two separate identifications of Price as the shooter by Ricky Johnson
  • DNA evidence linking Price to the firearm and clothing recovered
  • Video surveillance capturing Price at the scene
  • Ballistics analysis confirmed that shell casings matched the weapon found nearby

Price now faces two life sentences for the murders, plus additional time for the related charges. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Jake Boazman and Assistant District Attorney Anthony Jaimes. The defendant was represented by Todd Holmes.  The case was presided over by the Honorable, Drew D. Tatum.
