May Willine Jones

A graveside service for Willine Jones will be held at 11:00 AM, Thurs., Jan. 31, 2019 at Portales Cemetery with David Bonner officiating.

Willine Jones was born on Mar. 17, 1929 in Sulphur, OK to the home of Lillie May (Blackwell) and John William McKinney, and departed this life at age 89 on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 in Portales.


Willine grew up in Fort Sumner, NM. Her family ran the general store and mortuary. She graduated from Fort Sumner High School in May 1947. Willine was a member of the Rainbow Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star.
WIlline met the love of her life Paul Martin Jones Jr. at the ENMU Baptist Student Union. They were the first couple to marry at the current Baptist Student Union building on November 24, 1948. They were married for 57 years until Paul passed away on July 22, 2006.

WIlline was a homemaker who also worked part-time with her husband Paul at Consolidated Bottlers in Roswell, Odom Office Supply in Clovis, and Southwestern Bottlers in Las Cruces. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Portales where she served as Treasurer until the 1990s.

Willine is survived by her daughter Brenda Jones of Portales; son Paul Jones and wife Sharla of Bernalillo; granddaughter Carter Jones of Albuquerque; nephew Guy Jones of Albuquerque; niece Pam Jones Fagan of Albuquerque; nephew David McKinney of Texas; and great nieces and nephews.

Willine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Noel McKinney; her mother-in-law, Nonnie Mae Jones Odom; and her sisters-in-law, Elwanda Jones and Todie Jones.
