Obituary

Graveside services for Pablo Fortanel, 64, of Portales, will be conducted by Fr. Francisco Carbajal at 10:00 AM, Fri., Dec. 4, 2020 in the Portales Cemetery.  Juan Fortanel, Eric Ibarra, Alfredo Ibarra, Joel Legarda, Jr., Joel Legarda and Omar Legarda will serve as pallbearers.

Pablo Fortanel-Garcia was born June 28, 1956, in Irapuato, Mexico to the home of Ofelia (Garcia) and Odilon Fortanel, and died Dec. 1, 2020 in Lubbock, TX.  On July 13, 1975, he was married to Ana Flores.  Mr. Fortanel lived in Mexico until 1996, when he and his family moved to Tucumcari, NM.  In 1998, they moved to Greeley, CO, and then in 2007 they came to Portales to make their home.

Mr. Fortanel was a brick mason by trade, and worked with a number of different contractors.  At the time of his death he was employed by Palomino Construction.  While living in Mexico, Mr. Fortanel was the pitcher on a regional baseball team.  During that time, he played in numerous places in Mexico as well as in the US.  While living in Greeley he also coached and managed several different teams.  His favorite team was the New York Yankees.

He is survived by Ana Flores, his wife of more than 45 years of their home in Portales; a son and daughter-in-law, Juan and Jessica Fortanel of Portales; three daughters and sons-in-law, Paty and Manuel Rodriguez, Elisa and Joel Legarda and Karen and Jesus Suarez all of Portales; eight grandchildren, Eric Ibarra, Alfredo Ibarra, Omar Legarda, Joel Legarda, Edel Legarda, Abel Legarda, Sheccid Fortanel and Galilea Fortanel; two great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Legarda and Jeremiah Legarda; four brothers, Odilon Fortanel, Jesus Fortanel, Rosalio Fortanel and Braulio Fortanel all of Chihuahua, Mexico and two sisters, Virginia Fortanel and Ana Fortanel both of Chihuahua, Mexico.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and a brother Alfredo Fortanel.
