On Saturday, October 10th, 2026, the Portales Fire Department will assist City of Portales residents with changing batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors. Residents are required to call the Portales Fire Department at (575) 356-4406 to reserve a time for battery replacement. Please note that residents must provide the correct replacement batteries for their devices, and Fire Department personnel will only be replacing batteries, not installing new smoke or CO detectors.
Working smoke and CO detectors save lives, and the Portales Fire Department encourages all community members to verify their safety devices are operational before an emergency occurs.
