The men’s winner was Benjamin Hurren, 13, who covered the 2-mile course in 12:42. Second place went to Fabian Lopez, 15 in 13:09. Adam Terry, 58, placed third in 13:43.
Winning the women’s division for the third-straight year was Jeanel Hoppe, 42, in 17:34. Luisa Lucero, 33, improved from third to second this year. Cassidy Garcia, 25, was third in 21:01.
Age-group awards included gift cards from area restaurants, medals for age-group winners, and ribbons for second and third-place in age groups. Patriotic costume awards went to Lucia Ruehle, Melissa Ruehle, Adam White, and Benjamin Wight. Net proceeds supported the Portales Woman’s Club’s (PWC) community-enrichment projects. Race directors are Betsy Chavez, Jeff Gentry, Lee Hurren, and Cindy Gentry, with support from the City of Portales Street Department and Police Department.
