This week’s pet of the week will be a dog named Ram. Portales Animal Shelter is also at max capacity right now and we are having troubles with rescues as everyone seems to be full with dogs, so if anyone wants to adopt or wants to speak with our local rescues about helping with fostering dogs, that would be amazing!

Ram is a male Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix, approximately 1-2 years old. Ram is a special sweetheart who needs a loving home with someone with time and patience. He was not treated well and originally when he was brought in, he would not let anyone near him, especially men. BUT, he has drastically changed for the best, and now loves chin and belly scratches, shakes his whole body while wagging his tail and barks with excitement when he sees people. If you are looking for an adorable, sweet, loving fur baby, Ram is the one for you.

Thank you,

Katherine Johnson

The Portales Police Department provides full-service animal control to all residents within the Portales city limits. Animal Control Officers attend state certification classes and are trained to handle calls for service that involve domestic animals or wildlife. The Division provides patrol service six days per week and may be called out after hours in case of an emergency.

All dogs and cats kept within the city limits must get a Portales city license. This license can be picked up at the Animal Shelter. Owners should bring proof of vaccination for their pet(s). The license costs $5.00 per year. In addition to the individual animal registration, Animal Control is responsible for issuing Domestic Livestock, Residential Multi-Animal and Commercial Permits.
