This week’s pet of the week we will have Kiya and Comet. At the moment we are completely full with cats, kittens and puppies.

Comet is a non-sterilized male cat, approximately 3-5 years old. Comet is super fluffy and friendly and will make a fantastic house cat. He loves catnip, lounging around, chin and back scratches.

Kiya is a female Pitbull mix, approximately 1-2 years old. If you are looking for an adorable snuggle buddy, she is the gal for you! She is house broken, very calm, and the absolute sweetest little girl.

Animal Shelter is open:

Monday – Friday from 10:00 am – 4:30 PM

Closed on Saturday, Sundays and City Holidays

The Portales Police Department provides full-service animal control to all residents within the Portales city limits. Animal Control Officers attend state certification classes and are trained to handle calls for service that involve domestic animals or wildlife. The Division provides patrol service six days per week and may be called out after hours in case of an emergency.

All dogs and cats kept within the city limits must get a Portales city license. This license can be picked up at the Animal Shelter. Owners should bring proof of vaccination for their pet(s). The license costs $5.00 per year. In addition to the individual animal registration, Animal Control is responsible for issuing Domestic Livestock, Residential Multi-Animal and Commercial Permits.
