The Rams traveled to Albuquerque for a Saturday afternoon game against opponent, Rio Grande High School. Kickoff was at 1 pm and the Rams quickly began their reign over their big city opponent.

Big plays were being made by quarterback #5 Devin Diaz and receivers #6 Eric Ramirez and #11 Zane Mayberry, as well as the rest of the Rams offense. By the end of the first quarter, the Rams offense had scored 28 points, while their defense held Rio Grande to none.

The game took off quickly and by half, Portales had such a dominating lead, it would’ve taken a miracle for Rio Grande to come back. #7 Elijah Kladiihbah and #21 Brandon Blidi helped tack on some rushing touchdowns in the 2nd. Kladiihbah even returned a 42 yard punt for a touchdown. By the end of the first half, it was clear the high school mercy rule would be enforced upon 2nd half kickoff, because the Rams were ahead 47-0.

When the two teams came back out after halftime, Rio Grande kicked to Portales and #11 Zane Mayberry returned it 85-yards for a touchdown. The game quickly ended after with a score of 53-0 and 11:41 min left in the 3rd quarter.

The dominating performance was a big morale boost for the Rams who are now 1-4 this season. They are scheduled to face Dexter on the road on October 1 at 7 PM in Dexter.
