Ronald “Ronnie” Everett Caviness May 23, 1947 ~ July 15, 2026 (age 79)

     A graveside service for Ronnie Caviness, 79, of Portales, will be held at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the Causey Cemetery with Pastor John Combs officiating.

Ronald Everett Caviness known by most people as Ronnie was born on May 23, 1947, in Clovis, NM, to the home of Mary Ruth (Gardner) and Herschel Lee Caviness and passed away on July 15, 2026, in Portales.

Ronnie grew up in Causey where he was active in 4H and FFA and graduated from Causey High School in 1965.  He loved showing pigs and sheep while in high school as well as judging livestock. His senior year he showed the Grand Champion Lamb at the Roosevelt County Fair, the New Mexico State Fair, the Roswell Fair, the El Paso Fair, and the Lubbock Fair.  After high school, Ronnie attended New Mexico State University for a couple of years.  He came home from college and worked for his dad around the farm.  In 1974, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had a successful surgery but afterwards he had a stroke which left him disabled.

Ronnie enjoyed listening to old country music on his transistor radio. He also loved to dance and loved to barbecue. Ronnie was blessed with many good friends and family members that loved him a lot.

Survivors include his brother, Darrell Caviness & wife Paula of Causey; his sister, Fern Goodson & husband Buz of Portales; a sister-in-law, Jill Caviness of Causey; his children, Clay & Kendra, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel & Ruth Caviness; his grandparents, Jim & Fronie (White) Caviness and G.W. & Artie (Hart) Gardner; his brothers, Lee Ross Caviness in 2021 and Gary Caviness in 1996 and a sister, Artie Lee Caviness in 1946.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bee Hive of Portales and Interim Hospice for all of their love and care of Ronnie.
