Obituary

The Rosary for Ruby Pena, 83, of Portales, will be recited at 1:00 PM Friday, January 7, 2022, at St. Helen Catholic Church.  The Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 2:00 PM, with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Ruben Pena, Amanda Pena, Mark Pena, Louis Ritchie, Jonathan Soto and Joshua Soto serving as pallbearers.

Ruby Pena was born September 2, 1938, in Anton Chico, New Mexico to the home of Isabel (Martinez) and Benito Sisneros, and died January 3, 2022 in Portales.  She and Paul were married on December 10, 1959 for 30 years before he passed. They were devoted parents and very family oriented.  She continued to be the glue that held her family together, and loved as her family grew bigger. She would always say “I want to live to see my children’s children, and my great grandchildren”. God allowed her dream to come to pass and they were all the center of her universe.

Ruby retired from Portales Schools Cafeteria where she made lots of friends; many became like family.  She was an active member of St. Helen Catholic Church throughout her life and loved going to church.  She taught her family the importance of having a personal relationship with God and claimed him her savior.  She loved to work in the yard and built a little bird haven.  She would sit and watch the hummingbirds and blue jays all day with such joy.  She told her children she hopes Heaven has all the colors of hummingbirds.  She loved to read and do word search puzzles all day.  She had a special relationship with her children and grandchildren; all a little different, but equally as important.  She will be missed beyond belief! However, because of her strong faith that she shared; we know she is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior.  Her 83 years on this earth was not enough for her children and grandchildren, but it is when we see you again, not good-bye.

She is survived by five children, Michael Pena & Wife Carmen, Johnny Pena, Martin Pena, Edward Pena and Paula Soto & Husband Jaime; seven grandchildren, Ruben Pena, Louis Ritchie, Amanda Pena, Mark Pena, Jonathan Soto, Tori Pena and Joshua Soto; four great-grandchildren Adelee Montoya, Mason Pena, River Pena and Zayla Ritchie; five siblings, Hubert Sisneros, Nash Sisneros & Wife Sylvia, Alex Sisneros & Wife Paula, Rachel Bruce & Husband Thom and Margaret Estrada, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul M. Pena, her parents, a daughter-in-law, Alma Pena, two grandchildren, Mary Pena and David Soto, and one great-grandchild, Mia Pena
