Rudolfo “Rudy” Leal-Alaniz Obituary

Memorial services for Rudolfo or Rudy Alaniz, or as many knew him as Rudy Leal will be announced soon.

Rudolfo Leal-Alaniz was born Jan. 14, 1957 in Kerrville, Tx to Leonor (Leal) and Amado Alaniz, and passed from this life early on the morning of May 22, 2025 in Lubbock, TX following a brief illness.

Rudolfo actually grew up in Portales and was reared in the home of his aunt and uncle, Lupe and Nabor Leal.  As a young man he began working as a meat cutter, and was employed at Clovis Custom Slaughter, as well as Missouri Beef and eventually at Safeway and Albertsons.  In more recent times he had done home remodeling for various individuals.

On Sept. 17, 1977 in Portales, he was married to Lorraine Nestorita Aragon.  Mr. Alaniz enjoyed drag racing and building hot rods, but most especially riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Rudy was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  Rudy was a very generous man.  He willingly went above and beyond the norms to help anyone in need.

He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of nearly 48 years of their home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Amado Leal and wife, Charity Gibson of Lubbock, TX and Emilio Leal of Portales; two daughters and sons-in-law, Crissy and Andrew Sosa of Portales and Ramona and Seth Gibson also of Portales; seven grandchildren, Julian, Vanessa and Natalie Romero, Adrian and Lorenzo Leal and Annistyn and Ava Gibson; as well as two great-grandchildren, Elliana and Koah Leal; four brothers, Leo (Kathy) Leal of Clovis, Rick (Lisa) Leal of Tijeras, NM, Jim (Blanche) Alaniz of Pawnee, TX and Vidal (Katieu) Alaniz also of Pawnee; and seven sisters, Adelida Romo of Springfield, MO, Mary Leal of Norman, OK, Erma (Michael) Braun of Clovis, Anita (Robert) Aguirre of Houston, TX, Emma (William) Wysong of Jacksboro, TX, Sylvia (Patrick) Bourgois of Gibson, La and Eleanor Nelson of Jacksboro, TX; and a brother-in-law, Charles Pate.  He was preceded in death by his natural parents as well as by Mr. and Mrs. Leal and five brothers, Nabor Leal, Jr., Domingo Leal, David Leal, Frankie Leal, and Amado Alaniz, Jr.; and a sister Betty Alaniz Pate.
