Ruth “Lynell McClary Obituary

Private graveside services for Lynell McClary will be conducted at 1:00 PM (CDT), Mon., May 4, 2026 in the Channing Cemetery in Channing, TX with her daughter, Lynlea Fleischman officiating.  Family members will serve as pallbearers.  The family requests no flowers and that memorial contributions be made to the Retirement Ranch where she received excellent care.

Ruth “Lynell” McClary was born Feb. 20, 1937 in Brawley, CA to the home of Ruth Edna (Glaze) and Paris Wentworth “P. W.” Skelton, and entered into the presence of the Lord on the afternoon of April 29, 2026 in Clovis, NM.  Ms. McClary graduated from Channing High School in 1955, and soon afterward was married to David McClary.  They had three children together before later divorcing.  In the early 1960’s the family moved to Portales.  Following the couple’s divorce she moved to Amarillo in 1979.  While living there she worked as a secretary for Diamond Shamrock.  In the mid 1990’s she returned to Portales to be nearer family.  For most of her adult life Lynell was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.  She was an accomplished artist, creating many beautiful oil paintings.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brien and Stephanie McClary of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynlea and Steve Fleischman of Morgantown, IN; a daughter-in-law, Sheryl (Mrs. Kelly) McClary of Portales; eight grandchildren, Ashley (James) Kendrick, Kassey McClary, Megan (Mitchell) Moore, Kamryn (Zack) McNeeley, Lauren (Brent) Drescher, Harlea (Bill) Keller, Gabe Fleischman and Skylar Fleischman; seven great-grandchildren, Trent, Kelsey and Brooke Kendrick, Davian and Brielle Lucero, Riley McNeely and Liam Fleischman; and a sister, Lee Balfour of Amarillo, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and P.W Skelton, a brother-in-law, Jim Balfour, a nephew, Scott Balfour, and a son Kelly McClary who died Mar. 29, 2026.
