Sidney Rollinson Obituary

Graveside services for Sidney Rollinson, 88, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Wed., Aug. 19, 2026 in the Floyd Cemetery.  All of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Sidney Van Rollinson was born May 13, 1938, in Liberty Mississippi to the home of Etta Ersline (Whittington) and Sidney “Alton” Rollinson, and passed from this life on Aug. 17, 2026 in Portales, NM.  Mr. Rollinson’s early life was in Mississippi and in New Orleans. Before the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Air Force.  His primary duty station was at Cannon Air Force Base.  Following his discharge, he began working in Civil Service on the base.  He eventually became the Manager for the water treatment system for Cannon.  He was constantly studying to learn more about his job in order to improve.  He had been retired since 1995.

On Aug. 3, 1957 he was married to Naomi Bilberry.  The couple had three children together before separating.  Mr. Rollinson enjoyed hunting, motorcycles , and playing golf as well as bowling.  For a number of years, he was a member of a local bowling league.  His home was outside of the city, and he loved being in the country where he could do a little farming.  For several years he also owned and operated Sid’s Shamrock gas station on the Lovington Highway.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Tonya Rollinson of Rio Rancho, NM; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Dement of Ruidoso, NM and Tina and Eddie Overturf of Portales; six grandchildren, Hailey (Jeremiah) Hedman, Ian Rollinson, Madison Rollinson, Cody (Kim) Russell, Lyndsey Russell and Jason (Tamara) Miller; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elvis Rollinson of Tulsa, OK.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mildred Boyd.
