Update by Seth the Signman

Signman Signs is alive and well! On Friday April 13 a horrendous wind storm tore off several thousand square feet of our metal roof and flung it over 100 feet away into our alley. Thankfully no one was injured, but this left the old original black flat top roof exposed.  We continued business as best as possible that next week and managed to work around the disaster. Friday forecasted rain, and in a brief but torrential downpour, the old roof flooded and water streamed down the interior walls. We suddenly had major problems. We secured the contents of the business and avoided any loss, but the building was quick to show its damage. In 2010 we moved the sign business to 123 N Ave. C and our last day of operation there was Friday April 20, 2018.

We are currently working with our insurance company on repair and replacement and expect completion around the end of May. We listed the nearly 14,000 sq. ft. building for sale back in March with the intent to downsize and relocate but hadn’t been in a rush to leave. However, it seems that God has a different timeline for us.

This disaster led to answered prayers for others. Gary Lowman of Muffler Galaxay was ready to retire and needed to sell his building to make it final. With a lot wind and little rain we suddenly became the perfect candidate. It has been a rough transition for us, but we are now slowly getting back to business at our new location at 705 E 2nd St. here in Portales.

Our sign operation and production was halted after the rain storm hit on April 20. We were fortunate that Gary was willing and able to let us take over his office on a few days notice. We moved a few computers and setup our network and emails last week and began letting customers know of our circumstance. We are looking forward to providing phone and email assistance, but sign production is expected to be back in operation the 2nd week of May. Also, a special thank you to all of our customers for their patience and understanding during this time.

We made lots of great memories running Signman Signs at 123 N. Ave C, but decided to list it for sale in March since the nearly 14,000 sq. ft. space wasn’t often utilized. We can’t be more excited about our new place at 705 E 2nd St. and look to be in full operation by May 31! It is in a fantastic location and features perfect garage space for easy access from cars and vans to semi trucks and trailers. This will allow us to continue providing vinyl wraps and graphics for our customers with all types of transport vehicles.

We will continue providing a wide range of quality products and services to Portales and all of Central Eastern New Mexico. As a custom design and sign manufacturing shop, we will offer vinyl decals, printed banners, vehicle wraps and graphics, business signs, WatchFire LED Signs, custom architectural signs, billboards, and service (just to name a few)! We are available Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closed for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Please call us today at 575-356-4586.

We are a fantastic group of five. My mother Crystal is our Office Manager and Edward is our Lead Graphic Designer and Project Manager. Cory and Daniel Head of Production / Manufacturing / Installation / Service. I handle a little bit of everything from customer service to design and installation.

Experience has taught me that goals are fluid and can change day to day. For me, today’s small victories, such as internet and a couple of computers to email with, are goals that I couldn’t have known about last month. However, in the short term we will be looking forward to setting up our vinyl production rooms, and then move onto our larger scale equipment and tools. May 31 is a big day as we look forward to being back in full operation; and as I hope to close on a good note in this chapter in my life.

I am married to my wonderful and gorgeous wife Abigail whom I have 5 children with. We both come from big families and have followed suit. We enjoy most of our days doing normal family stuff such as school, sports, and church. Most evenings are spent around the dinner table where Abigail often spoils us with her cooking. We love to be outdoors and enjoy traveling when we get the chance.

We want Roosevelt County to know how much we appreciate having the opportunity to make a difference here. Our families are a part of this community and we love being a part of the growth and development!
