“I would like to thank each of our legislators for their efforts on behalf of Portales, Roosevelt County, Eastern New Mexico University, and Roosevelt General Hospital.
The City of Portales did quite well regarding funding coming our way. $500,000.00 for water system improvements, $400,000.00 for street improvements, $200,000.00 for an ambulance purchase and $300,000.00 in GRO funding for the purchase of public safety vehicles. With the passage of House Bill 148, Portales will receive $20 million in Water Trust Board Funding for additional water system improvements and upgrades. This is a $21.4 million direct funding to the City of Portales.
I also want to thank our legislators for working on the other bills that will bring benefits to all of us in Roosevelt County. Senate Bill 151 expands EMS funding ($11 million statewide) that will benefit all of our EMS services in the County. Senate bill 161 directs $5.7 million to Roosevelt General Hospital until more sustainable funding is available as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 17.
Senate Bill 148 will eliminate a 3% administrative fee that the Tax Department was charging to collect and distribute gross receipts taxes. This fee elimination will be phased in over the next two years and will result in an additional $128,000 coming to our general fund.
The monies directed to the County, Roosevelt General Hospital and ENMU will also benefit Portales in many ways. Once again, Thank you to our legislators.
Mike Miller, Mayor
City of Portales
