ODESSA, Texas – Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer defeated UT Permian Basin 1-0 Thursday night for its fifth shutout of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Desiree Morgas continued to produce offensively, scoring her fourth game-winner of the year which is tied for the most in the Lone Star Conference. The 2019 Greyhounds move into the all-time record books as their five shutouts are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in program history

At the 36:50 mark, junior midfielder Caitlyn Shmidt passed an amazing ball to Morgas who took a touch to create some space and hit a banger into the top left corner to beat the Falcons’ keeper from 20 yards out. Morgas, the El Paso, Texas native, now ranks third amongst LSC competitors with nine goals while her 22 points ranks fourth.

Junior keeper Whitney Dockweiler played well between the pipes for the Greyhounds, recording six saves on 11 shots faced. Eastern totaled 12 shots in the match, half of which came from Morgas.

Junior defender Hayden Zuniga logged another complete game and has been a crucial piece to the Greyhound defense since she arrived on campus in 2017. Zuniga has played 4,918 minutes during her collegiate career and now ranks tenth all-time in the 17-year history of the program.

The Green and Silver will wrap-up their 2019 season on Saturday when they take the pitch against Lubbock Christian at 1 p.m on the LCU Soccer Field.
