Sumitraben Rameshbhai (Bhakta) Bhakta May 28, 1939 ~ July 20, 2023 (age 84)

A prayer service for Sumitra Bhakta, 84, of Portales, will be held at 6:30 PM Sunday, July 23, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel.  A funeral service will be conducted at 9:30 AM Monday, July 24, 2023 also in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel.

Sumitraben Rameshbhai Bhakta was born May 28, 1939 in Navsari-Padgha, Gujarat, India to the home of Dudhiben Naranbhaim and Naranbhai Runchhodbhai Bhakta and died on the evening of July 20, 2023 in Lubbock, TX.  She and her husband immigrated to the United States in 2009 to make their home with their son in Portales.  Mrs. Bhakta was an excellent cook.  She was always a contented and happy natured lady.  She enjoyed taking rides into the country side with her family to see the beautiful vistas of New Mexico.  She loved seeing the farmland and the windmills and the mountains in the distance.  Her most precious thing to do was to play with her little great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Rameshbhai Nathubhai Bhakta of Portales; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jatin “Jay” and Ramila Bhakta of Portales and Dharmesh and Bina Bhakta of Georgetown, TX; four grandchildren, Jay Bhakta, Dhaval and Kunjan  Bhakta, Arpana and Dhruv Bhakta and Jigna and Chintan Patel; and four great-grandchildren, Mysha, Riyan, Ishika and Kavya Bhakta.
