The Eastern New Mexico rodeo team finished up their second rodeo in as many weeks at the Sul Ross Rodeo this past weekend.

Three Eastern New Mexico cowgirls qualified for the short go on Saturday night in the goat tying event, securing the team a total of 65 team points and a sixth place finish in the event. The men’s team did not have any cowboys qualify for the short go in what proved to be an extremely competitive rodeo throughout all of the events.

Senior Shannon Jackson led the way for the Hounds in the goat tying event with a fifth place overall finish in the event after recording a time of 8.1 in Saturday night’s short go. The Manitoba, Canada native finished with an overall time of 15.3 for the rodeo to finish in fifth place in the average and scored 40 points for the team total.

Junior Saige Bell was right behind Jackson on the leaderboard after times of 7.0 and 8.8 to finish sixth in the average and score 25 team points for Eastern New Mexico. Sophomore Timber Kelly also qualified for the short-go with a time of 7.1 in the long round, but did not record a time on Saturday night to record any team points for the Hounds.

Eastern New Mexico rodeo will hit the road for their third straight rodeo in as many weekends this weekend as they travel to Vernon, Texas to compete at the Vernon College Rodeo.
