Volleyball Finalizes 2020 Regular Season Schedule
Eastern New Mexico volleyball has officially announced its 2020 regular season schedule which features ten opportunities for the Green and Silver faithful to cheer on the Greyhounds on their home court.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of forging the team chemistry between our big class of new and young faces with our returning veterans,” said Head Coach Sia Poyer.
The High Plains squad will open the season on the road as they compete in the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas. Eastern will tip off the tournament against a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents in Adams State on Sept. 3 and Fort Lewis College the following day before wrapping up the weekend against University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Sept. 5.
The Greyhounds will then head to Tyler, Texas to take part in the University of Texas-Tyler Classic where they play four matches in a two-day tournament. The Hounds take the court against Mississippi College and Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sept. 11 and close out the tournament with matches against Southern Nazarene and Harding on Sept. 12.
Eastern will open up Lone Star Conference play on Sept. 18 as it hosts Texas A&M-Commerce in the team’s home opener. The Lions earned a bid to the 2019 NCAA Regional Tournament before being falling in the first round against UAFS. The Hounds will conclude their first homestand against UT Tyler on Sept. 19.
“Our goal never changes,” said Coach Poyer. “Win the LSC and make it to post-season play and go as far as we can. The 2020 season will be tough like every year because our conference and region has so many quality teams. The 2020 season brings a new challenge in that the conference has never played a single round robin format before. We have to be at our best during every match because we have one shot at each team. I think it will make it even harder to make our own tournament.”
The following weekend the High Plains squad will travel to Silver City, N.M. to take on their cross-state rival Western New Mexico on Sept. 24 and will continue to Odessa, Texas for a match against UT Permian Basin on Sept. 26.
The Greyhounds will close out the month of September with a grudge match against archrival West Texas A&M inside the rowdy Greyhound Arena on Sept. 30, the first contest of a four-game homestand. Eastern will take a break from the LSC grind as they welcome New Mexico Highlands to Portales on Oct. 6 before completing their longest homestand of the year with a pair of games against St. Edward’s (Oct. 9) and St. Mary’s (Oct. 10).
The Green and Silver will host their final home games of the season against Lubbock Christian on Nov. 6 with Senior Day falling on Nov. 7 against the reigning LSC Tournament Champions Angelo State. Eastern’s regular season will end on the road starting with a match against Dallas Baptist on Nov. 13 before taking the hardwood against Texas Woman’s on Nov. 14.
