Warren Donald Brakebill August 18, 1940 ~ December 23, 2025 (age 85)

Warren Brakebill was born Aug. 18, 1940 in Portales to the home of Johnnie Myrtle (Stroud) and John David Brakebill and died on the evening of Dec. 23, 2025 in Portales.  Warren grew up in the Causey community.  During his school years, he played basketball and baseball.  He was a 1958 graduate of the Causey High School.

On Feb. 22, 1959, in Portales, he was married to Carol Bridges.  Together they had three sons.  Later, on Aug. 23, 1983, he was married to Cristy Prude, and they had a son and a daughter.  Warren reared his family in the First Baptist Church.

In 1959, he moved to Amarillo to attend Barber school.  After completing his training, he moved to Lubbock where he had a barber shop until 1963.  At that time he and his family moved back to a family ranch in the Causey community.  At different times, Warren owned a dairy farm, owned and operated service stations, and owned a barber shop.  He retired from barbering in 2021, having worked in that capacity for 50 years.

Warren loved to rope, and had competed in numerous roping events.  He loved spending time in his roping arena with his family.  For the past 12 years, he had lived a short way out of town where he enjoyed his animals and livestock.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Rocky Brakebill and John David Brakebill both of Portales and Clint and Kennedy Brakebill of Amarillo, TX; and a daughter and son-in-law, Joni and Brian Visser of Fresno, CA; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Brakebill of Yamhill, OR and a sister Janis Hatch of Denver, CO.  He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Johnnie and Howard Gardner, a brother, Gary Brakebill, two sisters, Donna Marie Burney-Weems and Rosalie Burney, a son, Donald Dean Brakebill, and a great-grandson, Caiden Taylor.
